Beauty Therapy and Electrolysis Course

One year course Commencing January & July annually

Hours

Full time - Monday to Friday. Holidays: The school holidays operate on a four term year.

Pre Requisite(s)

Comprehensive First Aid Certificate, or equivalent - Unit Standards 6400, 6401, 6402

Course Description

Course Topics in Beauty Therapy:

Anatomy and Physiology

Thorough knowledge of the anatomy of the entire body including all bones and parts, muscles, insertions, origin and actions. Knowledge and understanding of all the body, cells, tissues and system functions.

Cosmetic Chemistry

General properties and sources of cosmetic ingredients, basic formulations and actions of the various cosmetic material and the specialised therapeutic preparations used in Beauty Therapy.

Electricity

Basics of electrotherapy, various electrical currents applied to the tissue in treatments, safety and maintenance of equipment.

Dermatology

Description of most common disorders and diseases. When to refer a client to a medical practitioner.

Nutrition and Diet

An understanding of the values of a balanced diet.

Exercise

In order to understand the importance of a fit and healthy body all our students are encouraged to join in a fitness programme. At an appropriate time during the course an exercise trainer is employed at the school.

Beauty Therapy

Practical and theory of all aspects of Beauty Therapy work. All treatments experienced by each student, applied to each other and later progressing to treatment on models and clients.

Visiting Lecturers

During the school year many specialist lecturers come in to speak to the students. This includes health professionals, podiatrist and visiting product knowledge specialists.

Electrolysis is a specialised field and a career in its own right. We at the Institute, consider ourselves to be leaders in this field. The methods taught will be Thermolysis, Electrolysis and The Blend.

A high standard of attendance is a pre-requisite for
final qualifications.
